What We Do
We aim to protect the public from unsafe tattooist and Tattoo studios, and look to achieve this through:
- a national investigations team tracking down illegal tattoo artist
- regular inspections of tattoo Safe registered tattooist and businesses
- educating consumers and raising awareness of tattoo safety
- investigating reports of unsafe tattoo work
- ensure tattoo artist and business work on a safe work environment and follow health and hygiene regulations.
- monitor health and safety procedures necessary within the industry
After successful completion of the application form, lecture and theory exam you will automatically become a TSO registered member.
To Summarise
- Operate the official UK list of tattoo businesses and Tattooist that work for those businesses, as required by law, to ensure only those Tattooist are licensed to legally work within the tattoo studio
- Undertake monitoring inspections of all businesses on the tattoo Safe Register to ensure they are applying tattoo competence health and hygiene
- Investigate tattoo safety complaints against registered businesses/tattooist for compliance with the tattoo Safety (hygiene/cross contamination, procedure of tattooing), the technical specifications required to meet the HASWA74 Regulations in England and in Wales.
- Apply a sanctions policy where instances of unsafe work or breaches of rules of registration are identified.
- Investigate reports of illegal tattoo work carried out by un-registered businesses or tattooist and report our findings to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). To view these prosecutions please visit the HSE website.
- Undertake consumer campaigns to raise the awareness of tattoo safety issues such as cross contamination, death by negligence and the dangers of using illegal tattooist not on the tattoo Safe Register.
